Beer lovers in Exeter have something to raise a glass to this weekend, as Exeter Brewery joins a nationwide campaign to highlight the impact of beer duty on Britain's pubs and breweries.
On Friday 9th October and Saturday 10th October, we're giving local drinkers the chance to enjoy 55p off a pint of their favourite Exeter Brewery beers as part of Drop the Pint Day, a national initiative calling for a reduction in the tax on beer sold in pubs.
Why Are We Dropping the Price of a Pint?
Did you know that the headline beer duty on a pint in the UK is approximately 55p, compared with just 5p in Germany?
That's a significant difference, and one that affects both the price customers pay for their favourite pint and the pressures facing Britain's pubs and independent breweries.
With the Government's Budget approaching, Drop the Pint Day aims to demonstrate how reducing beer duty could help make a trip to the pub more affordable while supporting the businesses at the heart of our communities.
Around 65 pubs, bars and taprooms across the country are taking part, and we're proud to be representing Devon alongside other independent breweries and pubs.
Where Can You Enjoy 55p Off Your Pint?
We're making it easy for Exeter beer lovers to get involved, with the offer available at two fantastic local venues.
Exeter Brewery Tap Room, Cowley Bridge
Friday 9th October
Pop into our Brewery Tap Room and enjoy 55p off every pint of our cask and keg beers. Whether you're a fan of Avocet, Exeter Gold, Ferryman or Darkness, it's the perfect excuse to enjoy a locally brewed pint for less.
The Hour Glass Inn, Melbourne Street, Exeter
Friday 9th and Saturday 10th October, from midday
We're extending the offer at The Hour Glass Inn into Saturday, giving you an extra day to enjoy 55p off a pint of Exeter Brewery beer.
Supporting Local Pubs and Independent Breweries
For nearly 20 years, Exeter Brewery has been proudly brewing beer in Devon, producing traditional and contemporary ales enjoyed in pubs across the region.
But like many independent breweries, we're operating in an increasingly challenging environment. Rising costs, changing drinking habits and the tax burden on beer all put pressure on the industry.
Alan Collyer, Managing Director of Exeter Brewery, explains why we're getting involved:
"We thought the best way to demonstrate what a difference lower beer duty could make was to actually knock 55p off the price of a pint.
"People are understandably concerned about the cost of going out for a drink, and pubs and breweries are facing plenty of pressures of their own.
"This is a simple way of making the point that reducing the tax on beer sold in pubs could make a real difference to customers and the businesses serving them.
"We're extending the offer at The Hour Glass Inn into Saturday as well, so there's an extra opportunity for people to enjoy a pint at the reduced price."
Raise a Glass to Your Local Brewery
Great beer is about more than what's in your glass. It's about the people, pubs and communities that make Britain's brewing industry so special.
By taking part in Drop the Pint Day, we're joining breweries and publicans across the country in calling for a fairer deal for beer sold in pubs.
So whether you're finishing the working week with a pint at our Brewery Tap Room or enjoying a Saturday afternoon at The Hour Glass Inn, why not join us and support your local brewery?
55p off a pint. Two great Exeter venues. One important message.
Cheers from everyone at Exeter Brewery!
